Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Instituto Politecnico de Braganca in Portugal and Spain examined the inclusion of gerontology and geriatric content in undergraduate nursing education. The study found that while nurses play a critical role in caring for elderly patients, the emphasis on aging care in undergraduate programs may be insufficient. The research compared nursing curricula between Portugal and Spain and found that Portugal focuses on building foundational theoretical knowledge in the first year and gradually integrating practical training, while Spain emphasizes an extensive and integrated approach with a strong focus on practical skills and comprehensive assessments. The study concluded that there is a need to incorporate aging-focused education into nursing curricula and provide hands-on training with early exposure to these environments.
