Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of California Irvine compared the outcomes of two surgical treatments for bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) caused by prostate enlargement: robot-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) and holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). The researchers used propensity score matching (PSM) to control for selection bias and compared preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative outcomes. They found that both RASP and HoLEP had similar outcomes in terms of stress urinary incontinence rates at 3 months. However, HoLEP resulted in shorter durations of postoperative catheterization, while RASP led to shorter hospital stays. [Extracted from the article]
