Abstract

A patent application has been submitted by Olaleye, Omonike A. from Texas Southern University for a composition and method to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection. The application acknowledges the global impact of the pandemic and the limited treatment options available. The proposed method suggests the use of compounds from the 8-hydroxyquinoline structural class, along with clinically approved active agents, to inhibit or ameliorate SARS-CoV-2 infection. The method focuses on reducing the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) to disrupt the interaction between ACE2 and the Spike (S) glycoprotein of the virus, thereby reducing viral infectivity. The composition can be administered in various forms for ease of use. [Extracted from the article]
