Abstract

A recent report from the University of Toledo Medical Center highlights a complication associated with rotational atherectomy, a treatment for occlusive peripheral artery disease. The case report describes a 57-year-old male who experienced guidewire entrapment during the procedure, resulting in damage to the superficial femoral artery and posterior tibial artery. While guidewire complications have been reported before, this is the first documented case of entrapment during rotational atherectomy. The findings emphasize the importance of considering this potential complication when choosing treatments for peripheral vascular disease. [Extracted from the article]
