Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the National Institute of Oncology in Budapest, Hungary, examined the correlation between PD-L1 (programmed death ligand 1) and NIS (sodium/iodide symporter) expression in primary tumor samples of lymph node metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The researchers analyzed the expression of PD-L1 and NIS using immunohistochemistry and found no correlation between the two. The study suggests that manipulating the PD-1/PD-L1 axis using antibodies could potentially reinstate the functional expression of NIS. However, the study concludes that there is no correlation between the percentage of NIS- or PD-L1-expressing tumor cells in the primary tumor of lymph node metastatic PTC.
