Abstract

A study conducted at Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania aimed to determine the predictive role of plasmatic resistin and leptin on short-term mortality in adult patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The study enrolled 277 patients and found that resistin levels greater than 11 ng/mL were associated with in-hospital mortality. Other factors such as a high NIHSS score, large lesion volume, and the presence of ischemic heart disease were also identified as important predictors of mortality. The study acknowledges limitations such as its single-center design and the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
