Abstract

A study conducted at Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia focused on the prevalence and antimicrobial mechanism of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The research found that CRKP poses a serious threat to public health as carbapenems are often used as a last resort to treat K. pneumoniae infections. Samples were collected from various clinical specimens, and 11 cephalosporin-resistant K. pneumoniae strains were isolated. These strains exhibited multi-drug resistance and were non-susceptible to several antibiotics. The study concluded that continuous monitoring of drug-resistance genes is necessary for making policy decisions. [Extracted from the article]
