Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia examined the respiratory morbidity in prematurely born children who were receiving palivizumab prophylaxis for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The study included 89 preterm survivors and compared respiratory outcomes among different gestational ages, birth weights, and current age groups. The results showed that while the majority of the children did not have RSV infection, they still experienced significant respiratory morbidity. The study also found that children older than 12 months and children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) had more wheezing episodes. Further research is needed to better understand the role of inhaled corticosteroids in patients with established BPD. [Extracted from the article]
