Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Federal University Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, has identified a potential alternative treatment for Candida infections that are resistant to fluconazole. The study focused on a derivative called 2-amino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4 H-cyclohepta[b]thiophene-3-isopropyl carboxylate (2AT), which demonstrated antifungal and antibiofilm properties against fluconazole-resistant Candida strains. The compound showed a synergistic effect when combined with fluconazole and did not exhibit toxicity in macrophage cells. The researchers concluded that 2AT could be a promising option for invasive candidiasis therapy, particularly in cases of resistant isolates. [Extracted from the article]
