University of Sao Paulo Researchers Broaden Understanding of Artificial Saliva (Influence of irradiated dentin, biofilm and different artificial saliva formulations on root dentin demineralization).

Researchers from the University of Sao Paulo conducted a study to evaluate the influence of radiation and different formulations of artificial saliva on the development of root dentin lesions. The study found that the type of biofilm did not have an impact on colony-forming units (CFU) or demineralization. Sound dentin under control biofilm had the lowest CFU and mean mineral loss compared to irradiated dentin. The only artificial saliva that reduced mineral loss and lesion depth was Bioextra.
