Abstract

A report from the University of Heidelberg discusses the potential risks of using cosmetics during pregnancy and their impact on the development of congenital enteric neuropathies. The research highlights that certain chemical substances found in cosmetics, such as microplastics, benzophenones, parabens, phthalates, and metals, can disrupt and damage the nervous system. These neurotoxins can cross the placental barrier and affect the developing embryo, as well as be secreted in breast milk, exposing babies to them for longer periods. Understanding the mechanisms and role of these chemicals in neurotoxicity is important for determining the safety of using cosmetic products during pregnancy. [Extracted from the article]
