Abstract

A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Concepcion in Chillan, Chile, explores the potential use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) for the treatment of endometrosis in mares. The researchers focused on the role of transforming growth factor beta (TGF beta) in the development of fibrosis in endometrosis. They found that preconditioning MSC with TGF beta for 4 hours led to an anti-fibrotic secretory phenotype, while a longer period of 24 hours led to a pro-fibrotic phenotype. This research suggests that a 4-hour preconditioning of MSC with TGF beta could be a potential tool for the treatment of endometrosis in mares. [Extracted from the article]
