Abstract

A recent study from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, explores the occurrence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) due to immune checkpoint inhibitors, which are used in cancer therapy. The study found that neurological irAEs involving the PNS are common, with muscle involvement (immune-related myopathy) being the most frequent. These myopathies can be associated with neuromuscular junction involvement and often occur alongside immune-related myocarditis, leading to increased mortality. The research discusses the underlying mechanisms of PNS irAEs and provides an overview of current approaches to clinical management. [Extracted from the article]
