Abstract

Local TV news in Chicago is adapting to the changing ways people consume news. Viewers are no longer tied to a station's schedule, instead opting to watch news on their own time and on various devices. Free ad-supported streaming TV channels, known as FAST channels, have become popular for accessing local news. While local TV news audiences are shrinking as more people switch to streaming, broadcasters are increasing their online presence to meet the demand for news on-demand. However, concerns remain about the depth of knowledge among the next generation of journalists who rely on news bites on their phones. [Extracted from the article]
