Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the Polytechnic University of Madrid explored how fluctuations in sex hormones may affect bone metabolism in response to running. The study analyzed the concentrations of certain hormones and bone markers in eumenorrheic females and oral contraceptive users during different phases of their menstrual cycle. The findings showed that sex hormone concentrations have an impact on bone metabolism during exercise, with higher post-exercise bone marker concentrations observed in all menstrual cycle phases compared to the active pill-taking phase of the oral contraceptive cycle. This research highlights the importance of studying exercising females with different hormonal profiles to better understand the effects on bone health. [Extracted from the article]
