Abstract
- According to a preprint abstract from biorxiv.org, a gene called PiggyBac Transposable Element Derived 5 (PGBD5) is a transposase-derived gene that plays a role in brain development in mice and humans. The deficiency of this gene is associated with intellectual disability, movement disorders, and seizures. In mice, the gene is necessary for the induction of DNA breaks and genome rearrangements during development. The loss of this gene in the brain cortex leads to abnormal differentiation and gene expression in specific neuronal populations. However, it is important to note that this research has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
