A recent study conducted at Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, evaluated the safety and efficacy of collecting peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) in pediatric patients with thalassemia major weighing 20 kilograms or less. The study reviewed PBSC collection data from 170 patients between January 2013 and December 2020. The results showed that PBSC collection in children weighing 20 kilograms or less is safe and effective.
