Abstract
- Researchers at Kyushu Dental University in Fukuoka, Japan have developed a novel immunochromatographic device for detecting Porphyromonas gingivalis, a pathogenic bacterium associated with periodontal disease. The device was evaluated in a study involving 72 patients with chronic periodontitis and 53 periodontally healthy volunteers. The results showed that the device had a high specificity and accuracy for detecting P. gingivalis in subgingival plaques. The researchers concluded that this device could be effectively used for rapid detection and semi-quantification of P. gingivalis in patients with periodontal disease. [Extracted from the article]
