Researchers at Kyushu Dental University in Fukuoka, Japan have developed a novel immunochromatographic device for detecting Porphyromonas gingivalis, a pathogenic bacterium associated with periodontal disease. The device was evaluated in a study involving 72 patients with chronic periodontitis and 53 periodontally healthy volunteers. The results showed that the device had a high specificity and accuracy for detecting P. gingivalis in subgingival plaques.
