Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Nevada has found that the prevalence of high-risk strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the oral cavity may be higher than previously thought. The study focused on non-HPV16 and non-HPV18 strains, which are not covered by the nine-valent HPV vaccine. The researchers screened saliva samples and found that 72 out of 251 samples tested positive for high-risk strains such as HPV31, HPV33, HPV35, HPV52, and HPV58. Interestingly, there was a significant increase in the prevalence of these strains after the introduction of the nine-valent HPV vaccine. The study also revealed that the majority of HPV-positive samples were within the recommended vaccination age range. These findings provide new evidence and support for the effectiveness of the nine-valent HPV vaccine in covering additional high-risk HPV strains. [Extracted from the article]
