Abstract

A study conducted at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh NHS Trust in the United Kingdom examined the surgical treatment and outcomes of patients with Boerhaave syndrome, a rare condition associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. The study analyzed data from a specialized surgical unit between 2012 and 2022, comparing the results with those from the previous decade. The study found that early recognition of symptoms and prompt surgical intervention improved prognosis. The mortality rate and length of hospital stay were similar to those of the previous decade. The researchers concluded that the surgical outcomes of their unit were comparable to previous years. [Extracted from the article]
