Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Illinois, has explored a new surgical option for patients with unresolved Bell's Palsy. The study compared the outcomes of two groups of patients, one undergoing traditional middle cranial fossa decompression and the other receiving surgical exposure with intraoperative electrical stimulation of the facial nerve. The results showed that the group receiving electrical stimulation had significantly better facial recovery at one and three months, with less synkinesis. This less invasive procedure requires no hospital stay and less time off work compared to the traditional approach. [Extracted from the article]
