Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Heidelberg University in Mannheim, Germany, examined the learning curve and outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) in 500 consecutive cases performed by a single surgeon. The study found that there was a slight but steady learning curve, with improvements in operation time, enucleation efficiency, and laser energy efficiency over time. However, there was no measurable learning curve in terms of blood loss, complications, length of hospital stay, and catheterization time. The researchers concluded that HoLEP using the en-bloc technique is a safe and highly effective method. [Extracted from the article]
