Abstract

A study conducted in Australian children's hospitals between 2019 and 2021 examined Gram-negative bloodstream infections (GNBSIs) in children. The study found that GNBSIs are more common in children with comorbidities and are increasingly associated with antimicrobial resistance. The most common sources of infection were central venous catheters and urinary tracts. Infections with third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Enterobacterales were associated with higher mortality. These findings will inform management guidelines and prioritize future antimicrobial clinical trials. [Extracted from the article]
