Abstract

A study conducted at Yan'an University in Shaanxi, China, has developed a smart two-dimensional photonic hydrogel sensor for detecting the amino acid histidine. The sensor, called CD-2DPCH, was created by modifying a hydrogel with NH2-beta-cyclodextrin and polystyrene two-dimensional photonic crystal array. The sensor demonstrated a good linear correlation in detecting histidine concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 1 and 10 to 400 μM, with a limit of detection of 58 nM. The researchers believe this sensor could be used to detect other amino acids by modifying different recognition groups. [Extracted from the article]
