Abstract

A study conducted at the University of Palermo in Italy explores the synthesis and characterization of novel metal complexes that act as binders and stabilizers of guanine quadruplexes. These complexes have shown selectivity towards specific structures or sequences related to telomere stability and oncogene regulatory sequences. Molecular modeling simulations support these findings, and the treatment of cancer cell lines with these complexes has been associated with an increase in nuclear guanine quadruplexes and a downregulation in the expression of oncogenes. The study suggests that these metal compounds could be developed into selective anticancer treatments targeting specific oncogenes. [Extracted from the article]
