Abstract

Axel Honneth's book, "The Poverty of Our Freedom," argues that our understanding of freedom is lacking and that modern society's failure to fulfill the promises of social liberty leads to societal fragmentation. The book consists of thirteen essays that challenge this normative crisis and expand on Honneth's vision of social freedom. Honneth engages with philosophers such as Hegel and Marx to argue that freedom is only possible in relation to others in the social sphere. The book emphasizes the importance of recognition, respect, and solidarity in reimagining freedom as a collective endeavor. [Extracted from the article]
