- A patent application has been submitted by ViaCyte Inc. for a cellular therapy and means and methods for holding, transferring, sizing, marking, and deploying a cell encapsulation implantable device for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The invention aims to provide a renewable cell source and an encapsulation source that provides protection against host immunity, minimizing the need for long-term immune-suppressive drugs.
