Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Torino in Italy has found that essential oils, when used in combination with traditional antifungal agents, show promise in fighting resistant clinical isolates of Candida auris, a pathogen that has become a global health concern. The study found that certain essential oils, such as thyme, cinnamon, geranium, clove bud, lemongrass, and mentha of Pancalieri, were effective in preventing the growth of C. auris. Additionally, combinations of these essential oils with antifungal drugs, such as micafungin, fluconazole, and 5-flucytosine, showed synergistic effects against the pathogen. These findings suggest that these essential oil combinations could potentially be used as a therapeutic alternative to reduce the dose of individual components and limit side effects, offering a potential solution to the challenge of resistance in C. auris infections.
