Abstract
- This article, titled "Zionism and the Academy Revisited," explores the influence of Zionism and propaganda on the portrayal of Israel and Palestine in academic institutions. It presents the argument that Israel was established through terrorism and settler colonialism, and challenges the perception of Israel as a democracy by labeling it an apartheid state. The article also discusses efforts to silence pro-Palestinian voices on university campuses, including the banning of student groups and pressure to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. It concludes by examining the role of Zionist academics and select academic journals in promoting a pro-Israel narrative, while highlighting the limited outlets for Palestinian and pro-Palestinian perspectives. The article provides examples of conflicts within the academic community, such as debates over the significance of the Jewish Holocaust and controversies surrounding specific research topics. It advocates for academic freedom and criticizes the suppression of critical coverage of Israel. [Extracted from the article]
