Abstract

A recent report from the University of California Riverside discusses the care of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients by gynecologists. The research highlights the increasing number of people seeking gender affirming care and identifies underdiscussed contraception and high rates of pelvic pain and irregular bleeding in these patients. The study recommends a minimally invasive approach for gender affirming hysterectomy and emphasizes the importance of shared decision making for bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. However, the research also points out gaps in knowledge regarding cancer prevention, the effects of testosterone on benign conditions, and the long-term effects of bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy on health outcomes for patients on testosterone.
