Abstract

A study conducted in Fujian, China evaluated the efficacy of Transurethral Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in patients aged 75 years or less. The study included 80 patients with BPH, with 30 cases undergoing HoLEP with preservation of the urethral ridge and 50 cases undergoing conventional HoLEP. The analysis showed no significant differences in various factors between the two groups, except for the immediate postoperative urinary control rate and the incidence of retrograde ejaculation, which were better in the group that underwent HoLEP with preservation of the urethral ridge. The study concluded that this technique is comparable to conventional HoLEP but can improve urinary control and reduce the incidence of retrograde ejaculation. [Extracted from the article]
