Abstract

This article discusses the importance of adopting an ecological perspective when working with students of color in order to enhance service delivery. It emphasizes the need for culturally responsive services and highlights the gap between professional standards and practice in this area. The article suggests that school psychologists should shift away from a deficit mindset and instead focus on reflexivity, cultural competence, and the implications of power, privilege, and oppression. It also introduces a biopsychosocial ecological model of human development that can be applied to assessment practices for students of color. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of cultural competence and cultural humility in supporting marginalized students. [Extracted from the article]
