Abstract
- This article discusses the life and works of artist and author Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes. He was born on June 19, 1884 at Montpellier in the south of France. He composed symphonies and operas and wrote a play when he was young. He studied at the Jullian Academy and the Beaux-Arts in Paris. He decided to stop painting when he was 29 years old. His play L'Empereur de Chine was written in 1916 and his Le Serin Muet in 1919. These plays displayed certain characteristics of Dadaism. Ribemont-Dessaignes was actively involved in several Dada programs. Le Serin Muet was performed during one of these programs in March 1920. Some of his paintings were featured at a number of exhibitions. Ribemont-Dessaignes continued to write plays even after the decline of the Dada movement. He also began to write novels. In 1929, he became chief editor of Bifur, an international publication. He started drawing again in 1955.
