Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Augsburg in Germany aimed to determine the rate and impact of post-pericardiotomy syndrome (PPS) after native valve-sparing aortic valve surgery. The study found that 23% of patients developed PPS early after surgery, while 77% showed no signs of PPS. Blood type O, valve-sparing root replacement, and peak C-reactive protein levels greater than 15 mg/dl within 48 hours postoperatively were identified as independent risk factors for PPS. The presence of all three risk factors was associated with a particularly high risk of PPS. [Extracted from the article]
