Abstract

A study conducted at Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital in South Korea investigated the differences in urine microbiomes among healthy women, women with recurrent uncomplicated cystitis (rUC), and those with sporadic/single uncomplicated cystitis (sUC). The study found that urine next-generation sequencing (NGS) had a significantly higher sensitivity than conventional urine culture in both the sUC and rUC groups. The urine microbiomes in the control, sUC, and rUC groups exhibited distinct characteristics, suggesting that sUC and rUC may represent separate pathological processes. The use of urine NGS could be essential in enhancing sensitivity for diagnosing both sUC and rUC. [Extracted from the article]
