New Findings from Medical University of Vienna Describe Advances in Medullary Thyroid Cancer (The role of [18F]F-DOPA PET/CT in diagnostic and prognostic assessment of medullary thyroid cancer: a 15-year experience with 109 patients).

A recent study conducted at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria examined the use of [18F]F-DOPA PET/CT in the diagnosis and prognosis of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). The study analyzed data from 109 MTC patients who underwent [18F]F-DOPA PET/CT scans between 2008 and 2023. The results showed that [18F]F-DOPA PET/CT had a high diagnostic accuracy for detecting tumor lesions, with a sensitivity of 65% and a specificity of 99%. The study also found that certain PET/CT parameters, such as SUVmean and MTV, were associated with overall survival in MTC patients.
