Abstract

This article explores the ecological perspective in Karl Marx's writings and its relevance to the current ecological crisis. It discusses the work of John Bellamy Foster and Kohei Saito in uncovering the ecological dimension in Marx's ideas. The article emphasizes Marx's critique of capitalist consumerism and the need to transform the productive system. It also examines Marx's concept of the relationship between being and having in capitalist society, where possession and accumulation of goods take precedence over human life and activity. Marx proposes that communism prioritizes being over having, focusing on essential needs, cultural needs, and human self-activity. The article highlights the ecological significance of Marx's ideas, as they challenge capitalist productivism and envision a society centered around free human activity rather than the accumulation of goods.
