Abstract
- This article discusses the historical significance of Captain John Smith's exploration and mapping of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers in the early 17th century. Smith's detailed observations and maps shaped the history of Virginia and Maryland and laid the foundation for the development of these states. The article also highlights the ecological changes that have occurred over time and the efforts to restore and appreciate the natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay.
