Abstract
- A recent study conducted at La Timone Hospital in Marseille, France, examined the occurrence and impact of high-degree atrioventricular block in patients with aortic valve infective endocarditis. The study included 205 patients and found that high-degree atrioventricular block occurred in 11% of cases. The researchers identified several factors associated with high-degree atrioventricular block, including first-degree heart block at admission, periannular complications on echocardiography, and high levels of inflammation markers. The study also found that in-hospital mortality was higher in patients with high-degree atrioventricular block. The researchers suggest that a systematic assessment of patients with infective endocarditis could help identify those at highest risk and guide appropriate monitoring and treatment.
