Abstract
- Researchers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine have conducted a study on oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), a highly malignant form of cancer with high metastatic and recurrence rates. The current treatment options for OSCC often have negative impacts on patients' quality of life. In this study, the researchers engineered single-atom iron nanocatalysts with a nitric oxide (NO) donor to achieve nanocatalytic NO gas therapy against OSCC. This therapy, combined with near-infrared laser irradiation, effectively induced apoptotic cell death in tumors through the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. The researchers concluded that this nanocatalytic NO gas therapy presents a promising and biocompatible treatment option for OSCC. [Extracted from the article]
