Abstract

Researchers from the University of Haute Alsace in Mulhouse, France have developed a new method for creating gelatin gastroretentive oral dosages that provide controlled release of riboflavin and propranolol. The dosages are formed by rolling up thin self-adhesive gelatin films, with the drugs contained in reservoirs formed by casting. The gelatin is stabilized against dissolving in the stomach by enzymatic cross-linking, and the dosages are mechanically robust to resist stomach contractions. Eventually, the dosages are degraded by the release media and can be expelled from the stomach. This research was supported by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR).
