Abstract
- This article discusses Tourette Syndrome (TS) and the challenges associated with its symptoms. The authors propose a theoretical framework called hierarchical generative modeling to explain the symptomatology of TS. They analyze tics as a form of action aimed at sensory attenuation and describe epistemic ticcing as the search for evidence of an agentive self. The authors also suggest that ticcing behavior involves a conflict between the minimal sense of self and the individual's explicit beliefs. This preprint has not yet undergone peer review.
