Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) has focused on mitotic inhibitors, which are drugs that target cancer cells by inhibiting their ability to divide. The researchers synthesized and characterized two new compounds with potential application as topoisomerase II (TOP2) inhibitors, which are enzymes involved in altering DNA topology. The compounds showed a higher binding affinity towards TOP2 but lower antiproliferative activity compared to the reference inhibitor etoposide. This research provides valuable insights into the development of isoform-specific TOP2 inhibitors for cancer treatment. [Extracted from the article]
