Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from the Russian Academy of Sciences focused on the synthesis of substituted 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione nucleosides using E. coli purine nucleoside phosphorylase. The researchers aimed to find new nucleosides based on 1,2,4-triazole and test their antiviral activity against herpes simplex viruses. They found that certain compounds showed promising antiviral activity, with selectivity indexes higher than that of ribavirin. The study also revealed that the lipophilicity of the nucleosides affected their activity and toxicity. [Extracted from the article]
