Abstract
- A study conducted at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio found that high-risk patients undergoing holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia had fewer infections when given a longer course of preoperative antibiotics. The study included 407 patients, with 146 receiving a short course of antibiotics and 261 receiving a long course. The results showed that 7.6% of patients in the short course group experienced postoperative infections, compared to 1.9% in the long course group. The researchers concluded that further prospective trials are needed to determine the optimal preoperative antibiotic regimens for these patients. [Extracted from the article]
