Abstract

A recent study led by Irving Coy Allen at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine has identified a potential pathway for treating colorectal cancer in humans. The study focuses on NF-kB-inducing kinase (NIK) and its role in triggering cellular responses that reduce the risk of colorectal cancer development. Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest form of cancer in the United States, and current treatment options can be challenging for patients. The findings of this study may lead to the development of better therapeutic approaches with fewer side effects. While the study was primarily conducted on mice, it was also validated in human colorectal cancer patients. The medical application of these findings will require further research and collaboration with other researchers. [Extracted from the article]
