Abstract

A preprint abstract suggests that age-related muscle loss, known as sarcopenia, may not be solely caused by aging itself. The study compared young and older men and found that both groups experienced increases in muscle protein synthesis and anabolic signaling after exercise and amino acid intake. The older men had higher levels of certain proteins involved in anabolic signaling, suggesting that they may have maintained anabolic sensitivity with age. These findings challenge the notion that aging alone leads to anabolic resistance in skeletal muscle. However, it is important to note that this research has not yet undergone peer review.
