Abstract

A new report from Amsterdam University Medical Center discusses the stability of steroid hormones in dried blood spot (DBS) samples. The researchers collected DBS samples from healthy volunteers and stored them at various temperatures. They found that most steroid hormones remained stable for up to 14 days when stored at 37 °C and up to 6 months when stored at -20 °C, 4 °C, and room temperature. However, there were some exceptions for certain hormones under specific storage conditions. Overall, this research demonstrates the stability of steroid hormone concentrations in DBS samples, which is important for shipping and long-term storage before analysis.
