Abstract
- Researchers from the University of Cadiz in Spain have conducted a study on phosphoric monoester hydrolases, specifically focusing on zinc-alkaline phosphatase at sites of aortic calcification. The study aimed to determine the role of zinc in mineralizing tissues and its binding to organic molecules involved in the mineralization process. The researchers used a combination of histochemistry and microscopy techniques to examine the distribution of mineral-bound and TNAP-bound zinc in aortas. The results suggest that TNAP not only has a catalytic role but also functions as a calcium-binding protein at calcifying sites. This research provides valuable insights into the understanding of aortic calcification. [Extracted from the article]
