Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil has explored the potential of using biofilm-degrading enzymes to improve oral hygiene products. The researchers focused on a glycosyl hydrolase enzyme from Flavobacterium johnsoniae, which showed hydrolytic activity against a biofilm associated with tooth decay. When combined with another enzyme, the mixture was able to remove over 80% of the biofilm. The findings of this study could contribute to the development of novel oral hygiene products.
